Bittersweet Memories in Design Experience

Architect as a profession protected by law has a responsibility to create a comfortable, safety-built environment which define a way to create good building. To define one good building is not easy, there are various factors such as how the innovation of a building system is addressed by, how the building responds to the philosophy, the urban-rural location, and the art context. These key factors will define the architecture based on our specific culture and climate which will be the key considerations on this short architecture course. The lectures host in one semester. The lectures has shaped basic understanding on how to think like an architect.

Bitter and Sweet Experience

Setiap arsitek mengalami sisi – sisi yang melelahkan di dalam proses berkreasi. Ia terlibat di dalam kerja komunal ataupun kerja yang sendiri dan retrospektif. Ia akan dilatih untuk peka terhadang gambar yang berisikan ruang, bentuk dan tatanan. Satu coretan garis berisi begitu banyak instruksi kerja di dalamnya. Variasi skala, kompleksitas proyek arsitektur pun memiliki dinamika yang lentur. Begitu banyak ekspektasi dari klien untuk seorang arsitek menjembatani keinginan klien dan kepentingan publik di dalamnya. Proses – proses yang melelahkan tersebut ada di dalam fase penempaan diri sebagai arsitek. Jam – jam panjang di studio, lembur yang dihabiskan dengan membantu lahirnya sebuah karya, juga terkadang setelah sebegitu banyaknya jam kerja yang dihasilkan, pertanyaan muncul ? apakah menjadi arsitek itu sebegitu sulitnya ? Ia perlu menjadi makhluk sosial yang kritis dan tahan tekanan, diluar itu ia dituntut untuk bisa kreatif dalam hal penciptaan bentuk.

Di balik itu, ada sisi – sisi kebahagiaan tersendiri melihat produksi diskursus arsitektur yang berkembang, melihat bagaimana konsep ide menjadi kenyataan. Dari situlah satu arsitek bisa berkembang, bertransformasi ke tingkatan yang tidak bisa diprediksi sebelumnya. Senyum di wajah arsitek adalah ketika ia melihat karyanya menjadi kenyataan, ketika ia melihat anak – anak didiknya berkembang menjadi arsitek muda yang potensial. Hal – hal seperti itu adalah sebuah usaha untuk memajukan ekosistem arsitektur di Indonesia.

Omah Library merayakan sisi personalitas, suka dan duka menjadi arsitek, mendokumentasikan begitu banyak arsitek yang potensial. Mereka mewarnai hidup orang lain melalui perjalanan hidup mereka, sehingga anak – anak muda, calon – calon arsitek bisa terinspirasi dan menjadi unik seperti pribadi – pribadi yang dibahas disini. Perjalanan tersebut adalah perjalanan satu kali, suka dan duka menjadi arsitek, sebuah pengalaman yang mengakar, kenangan yang menginspirasi.
