Experiencing – Think Cloud Design Lab

In this edition of Experiencing, we had the pleasure of welcoming the team from @thinkclouddesignlab an architecture studio based in Malaysia. While traveling to Jakarta to attend Malaysia Architecture Week, they took the opportunity to spend time experiencing Guha with us.

As we walked through Guha the Guild, conversations unfolded from one corner to another. They extended beyond discussions of architecture and materials, touching on how an architectural practice evolves, the many processes behind it, and the unique ways each studio shapes its own approach.

For them, Guha offered a different experience from the many places they had visited during their time in Jakarta. Each transition between spaces revealed a distinct atmosphere and story, allowing them to gradually see Guha not merely as an architectural project, but as a living place that carries traces of experimentation, process, memories, and the people who have shaped it over time.

The journey then continued to Guha Boboto. In a more intimate setting, the conversation with Kak Rich carried on. Together, we exchanged perspectives on architectural practice in Indonesia and Malaysia, the challenges of building a team, the creative process, and the ongoing effort to preserve one’s ideals amid the realities of everyday practice.

Through these conversations, we came to realize that although we have grown within different countries and contexts, many of the challenges of practicing architecture feel remarkably familiar. They also shared how meaningful it was to see a body of work that does not hide its process, imperfections, or the many experiments that have shaped it. Instead, these very layers gradually become part of a space’s identity.

This encounter reminded us once again that architecture brings people together not only through space, but also through conversation.

Our sincere thanks to the entire Think Cloud Design Lab team for your time, your stories, and the meaningful conversations shared in our home. We hope this gathering becomes one small chapter in a continuing journey that connects practices, ideas, and friendships across places.
