In our journeys we always have to understand where we are – the current context and then realize that there are many more possible contexts waiting to be explored. That’s where it gets interesting. To make bamboo more popular and free of the current image as “poor men’s timber” we need to work on many different angles. Our time on this planet is running short and bamboo can help to reduce global climate change as well as add a smile to the individual’s daily life.
At Chiangmai Life Architects in Thailand, they work on combining and binging different spheres and worlds together. Thus we chose this title – Bamboo Engineering to open bamboo to the context of the present world where engineering is playing a major role in promoting and legitimizing construction materials.
Modern bamboo & earth architecture is our design contribution to this area of architecture and human lifestyle using big bamboo structures such as trusses for halls, schools, eco-resorts, clay and rammed earth for thermal mass, bamboo roof construction for organic shape and ventilation, all to create beautiful buildings ideally suited to the tropical climate.

A very memorable lesson in the world of bamboology so that it becomes our insight that architects can also be more natural in terms of materials or forms, hopefully I can join again, Amen.

Rangkuman – Contextual Method #6 – Bamboo Engineering – The Next Context (Markus Roselieb from Chiangmai Life Architects)
