We held another session of Bittersweet Memories in Design Experiences featuring Andy Rahman from Andy Rahman Architects
Andy Rahman is the founder and principal of Andy Rahman Architect that established since 2006. The bureau was established shortly after Andy finished his education at Architecture Department of ITS (Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology) Surabaya. Andy actively participating in various event and exhibitions, both national and international, such as Indonesian Architects Week in Tokyo, Japan, 2011. Indonesian Public Architecture Exhibition in Den Haag, Netherlands, 2012. World Architecture Festival in Berlin, Germany, 2016, also Indonesian Architects Week in Seoul, South Korea, 2017.
His works were also nominated for international awards, such as the 2012 Private House (Ambiguity House) A+A Award Architizer, World Architecture Festival Berlin 2016 for Housing Category (Biophilic Boarding House), Archdaily’s Building of The Year 2018 finalist in the Office and Private House categories (Co-sharing Office and Miring House). In addition, his works are also widely published in both national and international media.
In the design process, he has a lot to do with craftsmen as executors in the field. This also led him to an awareness of the importance of Nusantara Architecture as a viable architecture in our homeland, Indonesia. This identity gives a spiritual belief and relentless reflection in architecture that “Architecture as a way to return the path of God”.
